Duotone experiments inspired by Priya Mistry and Paul Blow

No curtains, no louvers, no need for blocking the light – just a late night dialogue between the outdoor light and the indoor shapes

These duotone experiments were created by our Senior CG Artist, Alexandru Ciubotaru.

In this exploration series, Alex combines minimalist design with lighting and colour using the work of illustrator and artist, Priya Mistry, and visual arts illustrator, Paul Blow, as references.

We caught up with Alex to learn more about the story behind the series:

“Even after a period of time, seeing them still makes me smile.

“The idea was to speak about a 'space' by using minimal information – clean geometry and a light that will shape it.

“The inspiration came from old-school printing, in which a few lines were telling an entire story of a space.

“What I liked about my experiment was the indoors-outdoors connection, emphasised by the light.

“No curtains, no louvers, no need for blocking the light.

“Just a late night dialogue between the outdoor light and the indoor shapes.”

At Somewhere, we provide our artists with ‘Play’ – a dedicated time for exploration and experimentation. It’s a way to fuel our team’s passion for what we do, encourage creativity, and to help them hone their skills so they’re constantly learning more and bringing more to our client projects.
